Moments of latency are part of everyday life, here in different places in China. Scrolling on their phone, sleepy - the series shows people at work and outside in these moments when there is nothing to do. Between boredom and complacency, each of these photos tells a different story about waiting. The ease with which these people are inactive shows another face of a China said to be "in motion". Time is getting longer and seems endless, at the antipodes of the West, where productivity rhymes with speed and efficiency. In this struggle with Morpheus, the latter ends up winning. "The Chinese have a theory that boredom is the path to fascination."
Diane Arbus quoted by Susan Sontag in "On Photography", 1977
